Filtration tanks are backflushed every 60 hours with clean water to extract the filtrate. The process take about 45 minutes, and the water used is either cycled back through the processing plant or piped to a holding facility in a nearby quarry.

It all begins at Fulbright Spring (behind the fence at the bottom of the limestone outcrop). The spring used to operatea grist mill on this site. Today, it is captured for city water use. Dye traces indicate a subterranean connection with Valley Water Mill

Dye traces indicate a subterranean connection with Valley Water Mill on the northeastern edge of Springfield, but given the karst topography of the Springfield Plateau, it would not be astonishing if it drained a much larger area. Other water sources used at this facility include the deep well shown on the middle right, as well as incoming pipelines from McDaniel Reservoir. Additional water can be pumped from Stockton Reservoir, via Fellows Lake and McDaniel Lake.

The floculate falls to the bottom and clean, unfiltered water spills over the top.
