As we have just celebrated a season of holidays and look toward the New Year, it is indeed appropriate to take time to give thanks. Our department has a great deal to be thankful for. In particular, we are grateful for bright and energetic students - our most important customers; for they and our work are our “raison de etre.” They and you give purpose to our daily work. In addition we are grateful for dedicated colleagues who stimulate and assist us in our professional activities. We are very appreciative of those alums that provide support and friendship. We live in a great country with fine traditions and a sense of spirit that is unsurpassed in the world. Personally, I am incredibly grateful to live in a country that provides the freedom to succeed and the freedom to fail – a cornucopia of freedoms and opportunities that are accompanied by important responsibilities. |
(continued) I am thankful to live in a country that can and does generously reach out to those in need as has been evidenced by the outpouring of compassion after the horrific tsunami experienced just a few short weeks ago. Our thoughts are with all the victims of this tragedy, but particularly to our international students who have been so personally impacted. One of the most important responsibilities is to provide an environment to develop educated persons – a main focus of our mission at SMSU. I am grateful to all those that have been a part of this process. Please take time to show your appreciation to those who add value to your life. Some of the latest departmental developments related to our educational objectives and initiatives are described throughout this newsletter. We are pleased to share them with you. I hope you enjoy reading about what’s happening in the Marketing Department.
Finally, we begin another year. I’m proud to share with you once again “Nate the Great” and his evolution from infant to toddler, always busy exploring his expanding world. Being a grandfather is great! Happy New Year! Peace and best wishes for a wonderful 2005! All the best, Robin Luke |
