After a long holiday break, it’s time to start over. A new year, a new
semester, a new beginning… That’s what is great about being part of a
University community. Life has definite starting points and stopping
points with breaks in between. And those breaks mean both faculty and
students alike, come back to start anew, hopefully refreshed and
invigorated for another semester.
More than just books are used for learning, though. If you haven’t been in a college
classroom for awhile, you might be in for a shock. Wifi, laptops, the
Blackboard system, digital drop boxes, jump drives, Face Book and Ipods
are all part of the college lifestyle and lingo. Heaven help you if you
lose your password!
For faculty, gone are attendance and grade sheets, as all of this is
entered directly onto the
Missouri
State
computer system. Gone also, for the most part, are yellowed lecture
notes and overhead projectors, replaced by Power Points transmitted to
students via websites or the Blackboard system. As for returning phone
calls? That, too, is pretty much ancient history. Email communication is
so much faster!
But the essential elements of a good education remain the same. And, we
in the Marketing Department are fortunate to have liberal amounts of all
the key ingredients: dedicated faculty who enjoy the interaction with
each other and students; faculty who continue to be strong in research,
leading to greater understanding of the discipline; and, last but
certainly not least, students who are dedicated and excited to be part
of the marketing world.
Take some time to read about the accomplishments and activities of our
students, faculty, and alumni. We think you’ll then understand why we
are so proud to be part of the Missouri State University Marketing
Department. |
