Get to Know the Marketing
GA's
By
Sarah Redinger
As we
begin a new semester, the halls of the Marketing Department feature some new
faces. Three new graduate assistants began working this month. While we
sadly said goodbye to Stephanie Busbey, Shay Leeper and
Carissa Hodson upon their graduation in December, we’re excited to get
to know the new GA’s--Laura Angst, Henny Lembono and Brooke
McDowell. In addition, Melissa Albart and Sarah Redinger
stay on for one more semester before graduating.
Laura
Angst is currently a Marketing undergraduate with an emphasis in advertising
and promotion and is in the Accelerated Master’s Program. She serves as
President of Marketing Club and is also a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Beta
Gamma Sigma. In addition to school and her graduate assistantship, Angst
works for the Logistics Manager at AirGas in Springfield. After
graduating with her MBA, she says, “I plan on pursuing a career in
logistics. I hope to have the opportunity to be promoted in the company (AirGas)
and possibly relocated.”

Angst
chose to pursue her Masters at Missouri State because of its accreditation
and also because it allows her to stay close to friends and family in her
hometown of Lebanon, Missouri. However, while she may like to attend school
close to home, she also has a passion for travel. She says, “This summer I
plan on taking a trip to Los Angeles to visit Bob Barker on the Price is
Right and Jay Leno on the Tonight Show!”
Henny
Lembono currently pursues her graduate degree at MSU with two emphases--
Health Care Management and Logistics. She has her undergraduate degree in
International Business. Henny is originally from Indonesia, but has traveled
to three different countries for her education purposes. She says, “It was
very exciting because I found that every place offers different cultures and
lifestyles. To learn and understand other cultures is very challenging,
especially when the culture is contradictive with my own.”
In her
spare time, Lembono likes to shop, hang out with friends, browse the
Internet and watch Japanese anime. She enjoys being in Springfield
because she likes the peace and quiet that allows her to concentrate on her
studies. When asked what the most valuable lesson she has learned in college
is, Lembono says, “How to survive without parents and family beside you and
to live your own life by yourself.”

"The
Marketing Department is always lively with professors conversing...the
atmosphere makes coming to work much easier."

Brooke
McDowell is also a Marketing/Sales undergraduate in the Accelerated Master’s
Program. She is from Springfield and looks forward to obtaining her MBA from
Missouri State. Throughout her college years, McDowell has been very
involved in many campus activities. She is a Founding Mother of Gamma Alpha
Lambda Christian Sorority and currently serves as the National President.
She is also active in Delta Sigma Pi Professional Fraternity and Campus
Crusade for Christ.

McDowell will
be getting married in June to her fiancé, T.J. Bayer. In her spare moments she
says she likes to spend time with T.J., watch movies, run, and spend time
with friends and family. Now, however, “Wedding planning is taking much of
my spare time, but it is well worth it!” After Brooke graduates with her
MBA, she and T.J. plan on moving to St. Louis and eventually starting their
own business.
Melissa Albart has been a GA in the Marketing Department since Fall 2004.
This semester she will complete her MBA with an emphasis in management.
Albart loves working at the University and says, “The Marketing Department
is always lively with professors conversing about the next research paper or
where they will go to lunch. The lively and inviting atmosphere makes coming
to work much easier.”

"I have
learned that networking is very important in marketing. The professors
are all here to help, and you can totally benefit from taking advantage
of [their connections]."
Sarah Redinger |
Albart
is also involved in Delta Sigma Pi and Sigma Iota Epsilon on campus. In
her spare time she enjoys watching TV shows such as The Apprentice:
Donald and American Idol as well as spending time with her
boyfriend, family, and hyperactive Jack Russell terrier named Gina.

A
Marketing GA since Spring 2005, Sarah Redinger also graduates in May with
her MBA. She thoroughly enjoys working with all of the professors in the
department and says, “I have learned that networking is very important in
marketing. The professors are all here to help, and you can only benefit
from taking advantage of that. They are all so friendly and personable and
it makes the whole MBA experience a very enjoyable one.”
In her free time,
Redinger enjoys dancing, going to concerts and watching movies. After
graduating, she plans on moving somewhere new to start her career in
marketing research. She says, “I’m not sure exactly where I’ll be headed,
but I know it will be an adventure!”
