Life at SMSU (Missouri State University effective August 28th) has been full of activity this summer. Our president, Dr. John Keiser has retired and Dr. Michael T. Nietzel has taken leadership of the campus. Dr. Nietzel hails from the University of Kentucky and was the number two person on the UK campus. His discipline is Psychology and this should assist him in his new role as our president. As is the case with any new president, many vice presidential positions are scheduled for changes in personnel. The Marketing Department carries on...onward and upward. Due to the ever-expanding number of students requesting Marketing classes, we were allowed two additional faculty positions for this year. We are proud to welcome a new assistant professor for the Logistics & Transportation (L&T) Major (yes, L&T is now a Major within the Marketing Department), Dr. Carlo Smith. Carlo has five years of teaching behind him and he received his doctoral degree from the University of Tennessee. He looks forward to an active role in further developing the L&T curriculum at the graduate and undergraduate level and in devoting his time to teaching and scholarly research activities.
With more than 350
students enrolled in our nationally ranked Advertising program, it was
time to acquire additional faculty resources. We were very fortunate in
hiring a faculty member who is graduating with her doctorate from one of
the best advertising programs in the nation, the University of
Georgia. Soon-to-be Dr. Sarah Smith brings an additional
perspective of media/electronic advertising-oriented expertise to our
department. She is expected to receive her degree in August and is
looking forward to her new career beginning Fall 2005.
The departure of Professor Denny McCorkle from our department was met with mixed feelings. We were very sorry to see him leave, as he brought to us a dedicated sense of service and expertise in the areas of Marketing Management. However we were delighted to know that the only reason he chose to leave was to return to his favorite location on the planet, northern Colorado. Dr. McCorkle came to us from the same university he is returning to; and we know that his love for the area makes his return a personal joy. Thank you, Denny, for your years of service to SMSU and our students! |

Please be sure to put Saturday, October 29th on your calendar now. We will hold our 12th Annual COBA Homecoming Picnic at Bearfest Village from 10:30-1:15 before the traditional homecoming football game. The event is being promoted as the Missouri State University Inaugural Homecoming. All alumni, faculty and friends of COBA are invited to attend our tent for free food, drink and friendship. Of course, we will have our traditional sports ball give away (must be present to win)! If you haven’t been on campus for a while, why don’t you take this opportunity to see all of the changes and meet old campus friends? We look forward to hosting you! Enjoy the Marketing Newsletter. It’s an excellent way to keep better informed on what’s happening on campus. You might even find yourself featured in an upcoming edition. Again, please let us know of any changes of address, email address, or changes in your career or lifestyle. We love to hear from you! Robin Luke
