REFLECTIONS:

With the coming of the fall season we find cooler breezes, falling leaves, and the smell of hot dogs (and my fingers) smoking on the grill at this year’s 10^th Annual SMSU COBA Homecoming Picnic, with yours truly once again at the controls of the grill. Let me begin by inviting you and yours to this picnic. If you have rarely attended, let me assure you that it is a time to remember, bring together alumni, faculty and friends. Here’s the itinerary: Friday evening, October 22,  you can attend the SMSU Homecoming Banquet  that honors outstanding alumni; on Saturday, October 23^rd see the morning Homecoming Parade, then wander over to the pre-game tailgate activities and the COBA tent for the 10^th Annual COBA Homecoming Picnic for free hot dog lunch. Don’t forget to register for the COBA sports ball giveaway that tales place around 12:45 before the game. Balls (and other goodies) from every SMSU sport are given away (must be present to win). You’ll be finished with lunch just in time to go to the game by 1:30PM. For more information on all the Homecoming Events, go to www.alumni.smsu.edu.

This year’s COBA Business Career Day October 5^th was a runaway success, with more than 65 major firms hiring our graduates. I would like to thank all of the companies in attendance and encourage your firm to contact Dr. Linda Pettijohn (417-836-5574) soon to apply for a table for next year’s happening. Remember, first come, first served. Don’t miss this terrific opportunity to hire fine graduates.

The department continues to expand in the number of majors (720) and the number of full-time faculty (22), and we are adding an additional faculty member in Logistics and Transportation fall, 2005. With the number of advertising students soaring (over 375 at last count), I can foresee another advertising hire for the future…

Remember to enjoy what you do!  I have finally figured out that to do so is to experience the “secret of life.” If you really enjoy what you do, then work becomes pleasurable; you enjoy going to work and enjoy going home. You don’t kick the cat or your loved ones when you get home. I continue to be proud of the marketing faculty’s accomplishments and their continued effort to personally educate our students. They are involved with SMSU student success, and COBA students appreciate their faculty’s commitment. Yep, our faculty and students make it easy for me to enjoy what I do!
