Determine your earliest registration date/time by using the Fall 2009 Registration Sequence tool.
Check your registration status on My Missouri State to see if you have any holds (encumbrances) that prevent you from enrolling in classes. You can access this by selecting the Academics tab and Student Records link.
Use the class schedule search to find the classes you want to take. See the information about CRNs, the trial schedule, and course numbering changes below.
Request overrides

You can see if a
class requires
permission from the

Ensure you have met the prerequisite(s) for the classes in which you wish to register. Beginning with the fall 2009 semester, prerequisites will be enforced at the time of registration. In-progress classes will count towards meeting a prerequisite for registration purposes. If you are taking a class over the summer at another institution which will meet the prerequisite for a fall class here at MSU, you will need to request a prerequisite override from the department offering the class.
Obtain an advisor release, as appropriate. Freshmen and sophomores, new transfer students, readmits, student athletes, students on academic probation, and graduate degree-seeking students are required to meet with an advisor prior to registering for classes and must obtain an electronic advisor release to register. If you are unable to contact your assigned advisor, please contact the office of the department of your major for assistance.
Be aware of this important change: After you register for the fall semester, you will NOT be required to pay a $60 minimum payment. Instead, when you register, you are confirming your intent to enroll and are entering a financial contract to be accountable for tuition and fees. If you decide to not attend, you must officially withdraw (drop all your classes) before or during the first week of classes. If you withdraw after that time, you will owe your tuition and fees, even if you do not attend classes.
The new system enforces rules such as prerequisites for classes, time conflicts, academic program restrictions, etc. You should be prepared to understand why you have been blocked by the system when attempting to register for a class. View a list of possible registration errors and what to do if you receive one. Also review the prerequisites for each course you plan to take by viewing the fall 2009 course descriptions. If you do not meet a prerequisite, but want to request permission to take the class, contact the department of the class.
Effective with the fall 2009 semester, 500-level courses are for undergraduate credit only. Most 500-level courses have parallel graduate courses at the 600-level. If you are a graduate student, you should register for the 600-level course if you wish to receive graduate credit.
Also, some graduate level course numbers have changed, including some 600- to 700-level, 700 to 800, and 800 to 900.
If you incur any questions or problems while registering:
The system you enter for registration and student information contains a general search feature at the top of the page. We recommend you do not use this as a part of the registration process. Instead, use the specific class search feature in the registration tool.
When searching for a class through the registration system, the results page will display a chart showing key information about each section. Please note that the course delivery type does not appear on this page. To view the course delivery type, select the CRN link of the course you wish to view.
The new system allows you to register for one class at a time, instead of picking and registering for them all at once. With the exception of classes that require concurrent enrollment (e.g., lab and lecture, which require you to register for them at the same time), we recommend you register for one class at a time. This method will allow you to deal with one error at a time in case you receive a registration add error.
When registering for a class that you have entered on your "Add Classes Worksheet", use the "Submit Changes" button.
If you receive an unexpected error (e.g., prerequisite block) and you need to determine why you received it, view the class schedule or catalog description of the course. You can do this by 1) using the class search feature of the registration system and selecting the CRN link of the search results page or 2) opening a new window with the class schedule and/or course descriptions.
After you have registered for at least one class, a "Current Schedule" section will appear on your "Add or Drop Classes" page. The section lists information about each section, however it does not list the days and times of your classes. To view your schedule, scroll up so that you can see tabs, click the "Student" tab, select the "Registration" menu, and view your schedule in either a concise, detailed, or week at a glance format. You can navigate back to the registration system by clicking the "Student" tab, "Registration" menu, and "Add or Drop Classes" link.
My Missouri State, a new portal available to Missouri State students, faculty, and staff is available as of April 1, 2009. In addition to registration, you will be able to access your student information.
View a reference guide listing many of the resources available through MyMissouri State.
Please note that registration and other activities pertaining to spring and summer 2009 will be available through the current My Information system.
